AHHHHH Christmas eve [Dec. 24th, 2009|01:20 pm]

sati769leigh
Its been a pretty good day so far. got a lot done, cleaning done, alex is watching Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and chilling. Laundry is almost done and we only have Alex's presents left to wrap which we will obvsiously do later tonight! LOL.

Our plans are to order out dinner tonight and take alex to see the houses lit up on our CHristmas lane here in Kenosha. i cannot wait to see Alex's face tomorrow morning! LOL gonna be fun!

I never realized how much Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer as a moive bothers me. The "adults" in this movie are so judgemental and prejudiced! wow. its a cute movie. but I am not sure I like some of the messages involved.

Jewel and Pick n save today 12/23 [Dec. 23rd, 2009|12:48 pm]

sati769leigh

I dont have a picture for jewel sorry. i had ot get frozen stuff and what not put away. but i got 103$ in groceries for like 3.84 total OOP using coupons and register rewards from Walgreens. they accept them at jewel because they are a manufacturer coupon. woot. picked up stuff we needed to finish the christmas dinner and day after christmas dinner! woot woot

then Pick n Save is doing SUPER DOUBLES today one day only and they will double up to 10 coupons per transaction up to 7 transactions. i ony did a little cause i just didnt have TIME for anything really complicated.

this stuff was flat out FREE the tomatoe sauce and the soup were all 1.99 and i had $1 off internet printable coupons on them. no tax on food here so FREE FREE FREE

ok the next one was more complicated but soo worth it. last week i earned a $10 Pick nsave grocery gift card. so i used that and then this only cost me 1.37 OOP total!!

everything was on sale 2 for $5 or 2.50 each.
side plates = 2.50 used $2 off coupons from the newspaper = 50 cents each package
all other plates = 2.50 used $1 off coupon from newspaper doubled = 50 cents each package
but then i also had
buy chinet plates and get a package of plates free tearpad  coupons
and i also had buy chinet and get chinet CUPS free tearpad coupons
so i basically paid a quarter for each package of chinet you see.

i love chinet. yes i do! LOL

Odds and Ends [Dec. 22nd, 2009|05:55 pm]

grrm
[Current Mood | busy]

SUICIDE KINGS is out in hardcover (see below) and BUSTED FLUSH has been released in mass market. Meanwhile, I've delivered the additional content -- three new stories -- for the first volume of this storied series, WILD CARDS itself, which Tor will be reissuing later in the year. Since the first volume was historical in nature, telling the story of the wild card from 1946 to 1985, adding some original material to cover some of the "lost years" seemed like a natural.

The three new tales:
-- "Captain Cathode and the Secret Ace," by Michael Cassutt,
-- "Powers," by David D. Levine,
-- "Ghost Girl Takes Manhattan," by Carrie Vaughn.

No publication date yet. You'll know when I do.

As for FORT FREAK, the twenty-first volume in the series that WILD CARDS began, first drafts are all in, I've given the usual editorial note, and the writers are all off revising. This one looks to be a lot of fun. The Class of 2009 is doing some great work, and the old-timers ain't half bad either.

On other fronts, Gardner Dozois and I are very close to delivering our original cross-genre anthology STAR-CROSSED LOVERS, to Pocket Books. We're waiting for some minor revisions from one writer. Once those are in hand, the book will be delivered. Only it's not STAR-CROSSED LOVERS any longer. Pocket's sales force did not like that title, so the anthology has now been rechristened SONGS OF LOVE AND DEATH. Got a great line up of writers for that one, including Diana Gabaldon, Jim Butcher, M.L.N. Hanover, Peter S. Beagle, Marjorie Liu, Jacqueline Carey, Carrie Vaughn, Robin Hobb, Neil Gaiman, and many more.

Everybody's talking about AVATAR, which I haven't seen yet... but I have been going to movies. While the crowds queue up for Cameron, I've been catching up on some of the other films now in release. I enjoyed THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, and liked INVICTUS as well, but the one that really impressed me was ME AND ORSON WELLES. The guy who plays Welles should get an Oscar nomination for that performance.

As usual, I am way behind on my Xmas shopping.

Where does the time go?

Now it feels more like Christmas to me! [Dec. 22nd, 2009|10:14 am]

sati769leigh
I do things all year to pay back the services that helped jason and I many years ago. But at christmas i usually do step it up some. Today thanks to coupons I was able to drop off 10 LARGE plastic garbage bags FULL of food to the food pantry. and i stopped in at the shelter upstiars to see about any older kids who didnt have anything for christmas coming and any other immediate needs for the shelter.

thanks to ECBs and CVS I was able to immediately stop there and get

-10 jars of hair grease (thank you cashier who has mixed kids who was able to tell me the RIGHT ones to get!)
-basketball,indoor hoop and basketball, and 2 magazines for the 16 year old twin boys(space is limited and things get stolen so i went with simple things)

from my stockpile i was able to bring them
-10 bottles of suave lotion
-3 bath sets for the 11,12, and 13 year old girls
-stocking stuffers for ALL the kids
-mens and womens razors

I am not posting about this to pat myself on the back, but to share the power of couponing!! it doesnt just help MY family, but I can reach out and helpp others when otherwise i could not. We live on a fixed income!! so without the power of coupons, ECBs, Register rewards, and catalinas I could never be able to do all this!!

It is an amazing feeling to be able to reach out and just FIL THE NEED!! and I told them to call me once a month with any other immediate needs and I will glad to try and help each month. They helped us for several years. it is good to give back!

Dear Dr. Laura, homosexuality, biblical law [Dec. 22nd, 2009|07:51 am]

sati769leigh
I found this on Cafemom.com this morning and it is one of the best things i have EVER read concerning Christians who use the bible to speak out against Homosexuality.

EDIT: this may or may not have been written to Dr. Laura... either way, take the message for what it's worth - don't let the "source" get in the way, lol.  Some sources claim this letter was written to someone else, but the message is a general one for everyone who reads it.

Dr Laura Schlessinger ("Dr Laura") broadcasts a 3 hour long, radio program each weekday on a network of over 500 radio stations in the U.S. and Canada and has an estimated audience of 20 million people. She holds a Ph.D. in physiology (study of the functions of living matter), not psychology as some assume. In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger has said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response was posted on the internet and is best regarded as an essay clearly meant for a wider audience than just Dr Laura. It is a general reminder that many belief systems pick and choose their way through biblical teachings in determining what is "right" and "wrong". Authorship has been attributed to several, but remains unconfirmed. Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbours. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? 5. I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath.Exodus 35:2. Clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle- room here? 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16.Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging. Your adoring fan.
